February 11th a Historic date
This week marked the 30th anniversary of the release of Nelson Mandela from the Victor Verster prison after having been in prisoned for 27 years. Today Nelson Mandela (Madiba) has long left us and we see that his beloved South Africa is struggling to overcome all that has happened in the past.
No Politics
The aim of this blog is not to practice politics, but (in the spirit of Madiba) to see how our choices may reflect our hopes rather than our fears. The reason for starting Nwabisa African Art goes back a long way and has been a process similar to fruit ripening and getting ready to fall from the tree.
Hope, not Fear
- Hope is inspiring: Looking at how a man who had been in prison for 27 years under harsh conditions and under a regime that was in no way friendly to him, walked out and took his hopes to the highest level is admirable.
- Hope creates opportunities: The hope we have is to inspire those we meet with our purpose. We aim to share our love for Africa, her people, her art and her love of life as widely as possible. By spreading this love we hope that people will love what we share and that this will create opportunities for people in South Africa
- Hope creates a better future: We hope to help bring a better future to the people we work with. The local artists who work hard to create beautiful things for us all to enjoy. By supporting these artists we hope to create jobs, and enrich lives. As Madiba hoped for the Rainbow Nation
- Hope brings people together: In this journey we have started we have already met some amazing people and enjoy our cooperation with them. Knowing that together we are choosing hope over fear to build a better future for all in many ways
If you look at the situation in South Africa today, one could easily loose hope, and give in to fear. But that would be a big shame.
#IMSTAYING
On September 7th, 2019 a Facebook group was started with the positive message #IMSTAYING (I am staying) aimed at going against all the negativity one hears in the news and against the emigration taking place where people are leaving for reasons which may be very valid to them. (Not judging at all, just stating that it is happening)
Our hope is that you like what we do and support our efforts. This can be done by visiting our website and social media pages, and share this with friends and family. Ultimately it would be amazing if this leads to people actually buying art which in turn supports the local artists and gives them hope for themselves, their families, their communities and their nation
In just a few months, #IMSTAYING has already grown to over 26.000 members in the group. A clear sign of hope and not fear
